Temperature Range and Power
Look for 1500-1800 watts with temperatures up to 400-450ยฐF for optimal crisping. Higher wattage heats faster and maintains temperature better when adding cold food. Budget models often max at 375ยฐF, limiting browning on thicker cuts. Digital controls offer 5-10ยฐF increments; manual dials are less precise but more intuitive.
Cooking Presets and Versatility
Basic models have 3-5 presets (fries, chicken, fish); premium units offer 8-12 including bake, roast, and dehydrate functions. More presets don't guarantee better resultsโwell-calibrated temperature and time matter most. Models with visible windows let you monitor browning without opening the basket and losing heat.
